How to poach an egg in the microwave in under 5 minutes!

This recipe is so fast and easy, it lets you skip the hassle of boiling water and trying to figure out the right methods to making a poached egg on the stove. Although this recipe does not produce the most beautiful poached egg, it is hassle free and tastes delicious!

This recipe is a godsend if you love eggs Benedict, but do not have the time to learn how to perfectly poach an egg. It is also a great option to change up what you normally top your toast with in the morning! Try adding an avocado spread too, yum!

Poached Eggs in the Microwave is the Way to Go

  • It tastes just as good as restaurant quality poached eggs
  • Perfect for adding extra protein to breakfast

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • ⅓  cup of water
  • ½ tsp of vinegar
  • Salt & pepper

How to Poach an Egg in the Microwave – Step by Step

  1. Fill a microwave safe mug or bowl with water and vinegar
  2. Crack 1 egg into the mug 
  3. Poke a small hole in the yolk with a toothpick or knife
  4. Cover with a small plate
  5. Microwave at 50% power for 1 minute, remove and check
  6. Continue microwaving in 15 second intervals until the egg white is cooked through and yolk is set
  7. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, enjoy!

How to Poach an Egg with a Firm or Soft Yolk

If you like your egg yolk more firm, then all you have to do is pierce the yolk with a toothpick or fork before you put it in the microwave.

Microwaving your egg for just 1 minute will result in a soft yolk, great for eating with toast (in my opinion)!

Why Poke a Hole in the Yolk?

Poking a small hole in the yolk of your egg before putting it in the microwave allows the steam to escape from the egg while it is cooking so there is no egg explosion in your microwave!

Poach an egg in your microwave in just under 2 minutes! Depening on how many watts your microwave is, cook time may vary.

Cook Time 2 minutes
Total Time 3 minutes
