Hard Boiled Egg in the Microwave

How quickly and easily make hard boiled eggs in the microwave!

This recipe is fast and easy, just make sure that you add the salt into the water so your egg does not explode! I have also found that using a deep microwave safe bowl helps prevent any water from bubbling over into the microwave. Egg explosions and boiling water are not things I want you to have to clean out of your microwave!

The great thing about this recipe is that it makes for a healthy protein packed snack, salad topping, or sandwich filler. It’s so quick and easy! Whenever I boil I always forget to check if the water is boiling when I boil eggs on the stovetop. One time a couple of my eggs even exploded in the pot! So, being able to simply microwave hard boiled eggs is one of the great life hacks I have learned.

Why Make Hard Boiled Eggs in the Microwave?

  • It only takes 5 minutes
  • You don’t have to check if water is boiling, the microwave will just beep!
  • Great snack to take on the go

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp of salt/egg
  • 1/2 cup of hot water

How to Make a Hard Boiled Egg in the Microwave

  1. Fill mug or microwave safe bowl with hot water and place egg in it, pour in salt
  2. Cover with a plate and microwave at 50% power for about 5 minutes
  3. Peel and enjoy!

Can I Make More than One Hard Boiled Egg in the Microwave?

Absolutely! For six eggs, use a microwave safe bowl that you can fill with enough water to cover about 1/2 inch above the eggs. Stick to the ratio 1 tsp of salt per egg. Microwave at 50% power for 8 minutes.

Do You Like Your Egg Hard Boiled or Soft Boiled?

If you like when your yolk is firm, then allow your egg to sit in the hot water for a couple of minutes once it is done in the microwave.

On the other hand, if you like your yolk on the runnier side, remove your egg from the hot water as soon as it is done in the microwave and place in cold water. I would suggest using a spoon or tongs to move your egg because it will be hot!

How To Tell Your Eggs are Good

If your egg sinks to the bottom of the bowl of water that you place it in, then your egg is good and fresh!

If your egg sinks to the bottom, but stands up on one end, then it is still good, just not as fresh as it was the day you bought it.

If your egg floats to the top then it has gone bad, don’t use it!
